The Sennhof nursing home aimed to optimize its logistics and procurement processes as part of the construction of the new "Diamant" building.
The Sennhof nursing home in Vordemwald is a care facility for elderly and chronically ill residents. Additionally, people with dementia are professionally and compassionately cared for in a protected living area. Around 170 qualified employees and 27 trainees ensure the well-being of the residents.
In total, the Sennhof nursing home accommodates 125 residents.
Project Process
As part of the construction of the “Diamant” building, the Sennhof nursing home wanted to optimize its logistics and procurement processes. A project was initiated with the goal of automating logistics using weight-based inventory management for a specific product range. To implement this project, Wiegand’s AutoInventory system was evaluated.
Initial Situation at the Sennhof Nursing Home:
- The predefined inventory was managed by pharmacy staff, which required a significant additional workload.
- Material management is not a core task of the pharmacy staff.
- Complex processes and occasional incorrect orders.
This situation was to be improved through the implementation and operation of an automated logistics system.
After installing three AutoInventory shelves in the central warehouse, filled with the defined product range, orders could now be automatically transmitted to the external logistics provider. This meant that the ordering process was outsourced to AutoInventory, while the logistics process was handled by the external provider. As a result, pharmacy staff could focus on their core responsibilities.
At the beginning of the implementation, there were minor challenges in defining ordering conditions regarding quantities and units with the logistics provider. However, thanks to close collaboration between the teams at Sennhof and Wiegand, these issues were quickly resolved.
Currently, three AutoInventory shelves are in place in the central warehouse, equipped with 19 trays and 110 scales.
Key Benefits Achieved:
- Pharmacy staff was completely relieved of the logistics and procurement process.
- Order accuracy improved through automation.
Conclusion of the Sennhof Nursing Home
The investment was worthwhile and simplified inventory management, increasing efficiency and effectiveness. The automated ordering process ensures that quantities are ordered as needed, without manual counting, leading to optimized and cost-effective stock management.
Support was always available, and initial (typical) challenges were resolved promptly and professionally. Communication between the warehouse management team and Wiegand was and remains excellent.
We sincerely thank Ms. Ilona Hirschi and Ms. Corina Graber for their positive feedback and great reference. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and appreciate the trust placed in us.
